TURKEY’S 2023 VISION

This was announced in 2013 by then the Prime Minister (now president), Recep Tayyip Erdogan and he planned to achieve this vision by 2023 which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Turkish Republic.

Turkish government put on an ambitious challenge setting several impressive targets aiming to enhance many sectors such as energy, trade, foreign policy, health care, transport and tourism.

What is the Turkish vision 2023?

It is a list of development goals set by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in conjunction with the centenary of the founding of the Turkish Republic.

Achieving all these goals demands efficient improvements in different sectors.


Energy:



Turkey has dedicated much time and energy in this sector by setting a privatization plan giving investor many inducements encouraging them to invest in the energy sector willing to achieve the following targets:

-Increase renewable energy to 30%
-Boost hydropower use
-Produce 20,000 MW of wind power, 1000 MW of geothermal energy and 5000 MW of solar energy
-Establish an energy stock exchange


Tourism:


-Turkey's arrival to the fifth largest tourist destination in the world.
-Hosting 50 million visitors annually.
-Tourism revenue reaches 50 billion dollars.
 


Finance and trade:

-Making Turkey one of the 10 most powerful economies in the world, i.e. within the "G10" club.
-Increasing Turkish GDP to $ 2 trillion annually.
-Increasing the citizen's income to 25 thousand USD annually.
-Reducing unemployment rates to 5%.
-Increasing the percentage of foreign trade to one trillion dollars annually.
-Turkey's annual exports increase to $ 500 billion by 2023.
 

Transportation network:

-Building 11 thousand km of new railways.
-Expansion of the high-speed rail network.
-Building 15,000 km of double highways.
-Make Turkish ports among the largest 10 in the world.
-Production of domestic aircraft, drones and satellites.
 

Education:

With the conviction that a good education is the base of every successful nation, Turkey’s 2023 vision aims also to enhance education level by establishing 200 universities and achieving 100% literacy rate for under 50s.

Foreign policy:

In order to make Turkey’s 2023 vision a reality, the Turkish government has been reaching many countries for international cooperation to help them achieve their set targets. We have witnessed renewed alliances and business deals set with the Saudis and the Africans in addition to new-established friendship most prominently the Chinese who started strongly investing in Turkey recently especially in Real estate sector.


Real Estate:



Turkish Real Estate Market has been very active and efficient the last 5 years. In fact, residential sales recorded 6.6 million units with 137,869 of them sold to foreigners in the period between September 2014 and September 2019. It’s considered as one of the bases of Turkey’s 2023 vision.

While many residential projects with high standards are being built and many areas are being rehabilitated, Turkish government has been setting new laws encouraging foreign investments in Real Estate market such as the reduce of Real Estate worth to be eligible to Turkish Citizenship from $ 1 million to $ 250,000.


A dream or an achievable ambition?

In addition to these goals, the Turkish government, led by the Justice and Development Party, is working on several development projects, some of which have been accomplished, that will contribute to achieving the 2023 goals, including:

-Istanbul's third and largest airport in the world (operated): The third airport is expected to contribute 4.9% of Turkey's total domestic income in 2025, along with an additional $ 79 billion in profits.


-Istanbul Canal Project: The project connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and is considered by Turkish policy makers to be more important in the future than the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal, with a length of 45-50 km (28-31 mi) and a depth of 25 meters (82 feet). It will be 150 meters (490 feet) wide on the roof and 120 meters (390 feet) at the bottom of the canal. These dimensions allow the largest ships and submarines to pass.


-Akoyo nuclear plant (90% completed): It is a peaceful nuclear power plant with a capacity of 4800 Mega, located in the city of Mersin in southern Turkey, and aims to reduce the country's dependence on energy imports.


-Turkey owning three smart cities: it is Falconry in the Marmara region in northwestern Turkey, and Kayseri in central Anatolia, in addition to the city of Gaziantep in the southeast of the country.


-Turkish Space Agency: The establishment of the Turkish Space Agency was approved with the signature of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on December 13, 2018.
